International Seminar for Tackling Illegal Logging, 2007 II in Yokohama
"A credible and distributable system for verifying
Goho (=legal) wood and wood products"

Japan Federation of Wood Industry Association sponsored International Seminar for Tackling Illegal Logging, 2007 II in Yokohama on December 3ed and 4th, 2007, with 200 attendants including Masoyoshi Wakabayashi, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, honorable guests from timber trade related bodies of Finland, USA, Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, UK, and from related international research center

The discussion was held according to the following agenda.

  1. Verification system of legality and sustainability of wood and wood products by exporting countries. Reports and discussions from exporting countries and their companies. If possible, regional sessions will be held.
  2. Procurement of Goho wood and wood products in Japanese market and its marketing. Following case studies will be introduced - an introduction page of product case study of the Goho Mokuzai Navi site; Fair wood campaign for promotion of sustainable market of wood and wood products; steps being taken by major housing makers, etc.
  3. G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit & World and Japanese tackles procurement of Goho wood and wood products - A credible and distributable system for verifying Goho wood and wood products.

Based on these discussions, the executive committee of this seminar announced the following summary statements
